Video: ‘Jacques Jordaens. An artist revisited’ at The Pushkin Museum
On 1 October 2019, JVDPPP Co-Founder Joost Vander Auwera was invited to the The Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts in Moscow to talk about Jacques Jordaens. The event was live-translated and live-streamed. The edited English video is now available on YouTube (and embedded below), as is the uncut version with Russian translations.
In his lecture Jacques Jordaens. An artist revisited. The man, the painter, the draughtsman and his time in Antwerp, Joost Vander Auwera points out the common misconceptions about Jacques Jordaens, whose life and work are less studied than those of two other representatives of the Flemish Baroque – Peter Paul Rubens and Anthony Van Dyck. Jordaens is presented as a multifaceted artist whose most popular works – The King’s Feast and As the Old Sing, So the Young Pipe – are in fact quite commonly misinterpreted.
The lecture was made possible thanks to VISITFLANDERS and the The Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts.
