Privy seal warrant for £603 to Van Dyck (14 December 1638)

Abstract

Privy Seal Warrant for payment to Van Dyck of £603 for pictures he has painted for the King, and for £1,000 for Van Dyck’s pension which is five years in arrears, signed by John Chapman Clerk of the Privy Seal 14th December 1638.

Charles by the grace of God king of England Scotland France and Ireland Defender of the Faith etc. To the Treasurer and Under Treasurer of our Exchequer for the time being Greeting Our Will and pleasure is and wee doe hereby will and command you out of our treasure remayning in the Receipt of our Exchequer to pay or cause to be paid unto Sir Anthony Vandyck knight or his assignes for divers pictures by him made and sould to us the somme of six hundred and three pounds of lawfull money of England. And our further will and pleasure is that out of our said treasure in the Receipt of our said Exchequer remayning you likewise pay or cause to be paid unto the said Sir Anthony Vandyck or his assignes the some of one thousand pounds of like lawful money of England the same being in arreare to him upon his pencion of Two hundred pounds per annum for five yeares ended at the feast of Th’annunciation of the blessed Virgin Mary last past, Both which sommes amounting to one thousand six hundred and three pounds are to be taken to him the said Sir Anthony Vandyck or his assignes without accompt imprest or other charge to be sett upon him or them for the same or any part thereof. And these our letters shalbe your sufficient warrant and discharge in his behalfe Given under our Privy Seale at our Pallace of Westminster the fourteenth day of December in the fourteenth yeare of our Raigne
